I chose to do my photovoice topic on musicians who experience carpal tunnel syndrome after years of playing string instruments. I thought this was an interesting topic because I play violin and have been playing since I was about seven years old. Although I have not experienced the painful symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome myself, someone very close to me has, my mother. Music has been such a huge part of my life since I can remember, from sitting under the music stand listening to my mom play cello for hours to being woken up to Vivaldi blasting through the house.
As I continue to play, I am fearful of experiencing symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome or straining a finger but that won't stop me from playing, and it certainly won't stop other musicians from their passion. This blog will include information about my mother and her music career and various articles about carpal tunnel syndrome and its damaging effects on musicians' nerves.
My beautiful violin!
